At the invitation of the Mayor, the Acting Executive Manager Community Development responded:
Q1. Has a pedestrian study been undertaken for the proposed 330 room hotel on the Whitesands Hotel Site.
A1. No study relating to pedestrians has been undertaken.
Q2. Has a wind and traffic study been undertaken for the same site?
A2. The applicant has submitted wind and traffic studies however the Town Planning and Statutory Services Committee formed the opinion that they were not adequate to enable proper assessment.
Q3. Has a study in relation to sociological impact been undertaken?
A3. No study in relation to sociological impact has been undertaken.
Q4. What effect does the 12m height limit have along the coastal area?
A4. The proposed height limit of 12m relates to commercial developments and is a possible amendment to the District Planning Scheme.
1.2 JEANETTE MCILROY 94B MANNING STREET SCARBOROUGH
At the invitation of the Mayor, the Acting Executive Manager Community Development responded.
Q1. What is the overall height of the proposed redevelopment on the White Sands Hotel site?
A1. The proposed height of the building was 29m.
Q2. Is the proposed hotel building within the specialised beach development zone? If not then shouldn't the residential Town Planning height restrictions apply?
A2. The Committee had recommended refusal based on many factors including the height of the building.
1.3 JUDY SMITH 273 RAVENSCAR STREET DOUBLEVIEW
The Mayor responded:
Q1. Would the Council be prepared to listen to a submission from interested animal welfare groups such as RSPCA, Humane Society or Animal Liberation before it formulates any new policy regarding circuses with animals performing on Council land?
A1. That if Council received a submission to this effect it would consider the matter via the normal committee channels.
Q2. Is the Council aware of the articles in the Stirling Times supporting a ban on circuses with animals?
A2. That he was not aware of the article but other Councillors may be.
1.4 LYN HAWKINS 8 LEE-STEERE DRIVE WANNEROO
Q1. Is Council aware of the number of Child Care Centres within the
immediate area and the fact that many of these centres are running at "under utilisation?"
A1. The Mayor commented that the Council had read and considered item 10.2/PL14 and consequently was aware of child care centres in the immediate area.
Moved Councillor Daniel, seconded Councillor Willox
That a report be submitted to the Policy, Corporate Planning, Budget and Finance Committee concerning options for the conduct of Question Time and when this matter is dealt with on the Agenda by other Councils.
The motion was put and declared CARRIED.
