BACKGROUND

Correspondence has been received, dated 4 March 1999, from the Stirling State Emergency Service, which states (in part):

"This correspondence to you is regarding the IRB you currently have in the tyre store at the depot due to be disposed of on the 12 April 1999.

Our unit is interested in obtaining one of these for use during beach searches, lake searches and water courses throughout the City, which we do attend a few times a year.

Would Council be in a position to donate 1 of the IRB's to the unit? The acquisition of this would greatly increase our effectiveness on search operations in regards to water course searches. All ancillary items (i.e. Outboard motor and life jackets) have been agreed to be donated by an external agency should we be successful in obtaining the IRB. We would only need to find a trailer to transport the IRB or we can remodify one of our existing fleet to carry it."

LEISURE SERVICES COMMENT

1. Two of the City's Inflatable Rescue Boats (IRB's) have been listed recently for resale. They were purchased in October 1992 for $7,485 each. They would be listed for resale for $1,800 each and are identified as follows:

Fleet Number: P351

Asset Number: 3104373

Fleet Number: P352

Asset Number: 3104381

2. Both boats are in a serviceable and similar condition. The Local Manager of the Stirling SES has been given the option of viewing both boats but has declined the invitation, given the reasonable condition of both items.

3. The Stirling SES is a voluntary organisation and it is recommended that one of these boats be donated to the organisation by the City. Funding for this purpose ($1,800) can be made available from Activity A601, "Sundry Donations" account number 358 00057.
